The UK National Lottery’s designated successor, Allwyn, has named a seasoned security expert as its inaugural Head of Security. Effective January 15th, Mark Hughes will assume this position, overseeing all facets of National Lottery security. His appointment to the executive leadership team comes just ahead of Allwyn’s formal takeover on February 1st.

Hughes brings extensive experience to the role. His most recent post was as Chief Information Security Officer at Smart DCC, where he was charged with safeguarding the network facilitating the UK’s smart meter deployment. Previously, he dedicated 16 years to Vodafone UK, ultimately serving as Head of Corporate Security. In this capacity, he spearheaded enterprise security operations and compliance initiatives, collaborating closely with UK government bodies and intelligence services.

“Maintaining the National Lottery’s security and dependability is of utmost importance, especially as we execute our ambitious modernization strategy to enhance its digital appeal and engagement for participants,” remarked Robert Chvatal, CEO of Allwyn UK. “We are thrilled to welcome Mark to our team.”

Allwyn has designated a new Head of Security, with the goal of establishing an impenetrable fortress for the UK National Lottery. Their latest addition, Hughes, possesses extensive expertise in protecting data, the gaming system, and even tangible assets.

Hughes expressed his excitement, remarking, “It’s a true honor to become part of an organization that delivers such widespread happiness and champions worthy initiatives.” He’s keen to be instrumental in Allwyn’s ambitious objectives for the National Lottery.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Allwyn reporting a substantial increase in profits, primarily credited to their current takeover of Camelot, the former lottery administrator.
