SkyCity Entertainment Group’s Australian Chief Operating Officer, David Christian, has revealed his intention to leave the company.
Effective April 12, 2024, Christian will conclude his nearly two-decade tenure.
His professional journey commenced with the Federal Group, where he cultivated his hospitality acumen over 20 years. His roles included Executive Assistant Manager, Resident Manager, and Duty Manager. He then served as the General Manager of the Wrest Point Hotel Casino from 1999 to 2004. In 2005, Christian transitioned to SkyCity, assuming the General Manager position at SkyCity Hamilton.
After a period of ten years overseeing SkyCity’s Auckland and Adelaide casinos, Christian took on the mantle of Group Gaming Advisor from October 2014 to August 2015. June 2016 marked his return to SkyCity, where he held General Manager positions at various properties before his February 2021 appointment as Chief Operating Officer for Australia.
Avril Baynes, who assumed the role of General Manager of SkyCity Adelaide in November of the previous year, will transition to interim Chief Operating Officer upon Christian’s exit.
Callum Mallet, SkyCity’s interim Chief Executive Officer, commended Christian’s contributions: “Joining SkyCity in 2005, David has held numerous vital leadership roles throughout his time here. He steered the SkyCity Adelaide business through a complex and challenging phase, exhibiting remarkable leadership and adaptability.”
The Chairman of SkyCity, Julian Cook, conveyed appreciation for Christian’s commitment and efforts during his time with the organization.
Christian’s exit follows a series of recent executive transitions at SkyCity. CEO Michael Ahearne had earlier declared his own exit, scheduled for October, having initially intended to depart in March. Additionally, the company designated a new Chief Technology Officer, Andrew McPherson, just the previous month.
